Rostelecom: Russia needs means to crack down on hostile servers

MOSCOW, Jun 27 (PRIME) -- Russia has to be able to supress the foreign servers and data centers, Igor Lyapunov, vice president for information security at telecom and digital company Rostelecom, said on Monday.

“We need means to actively fend off the resources, systems, servers, data centers attacking the Russian Federation … It is clear that suppression and counter intelligence are needed. Because when you have a look, hypothetically, at the proxy servers we are attacked through we can see who else they target, whose else data pass through these servers,” Lyapunov said.

The matter is sensitive. “There is a doctrine of information security that prohibits any active counter actions, cyber forces, but I think we have found ourselves in a new situation where such tools are also important,” he said, adding that the country lacks active crackdown steps.
